information about essie letterpress

Essie Letterpress is a design and print studio - started by two people in love with colour, pattern, texture and design . We are situated in an old farming shed on a beautiful flower farm near Citrusdal., All the work is designed and printed with care using a 1964 manually operated German Proofing Press. Letterpress is the oldest form of printing and during the 1950’s advances in machinery caused this type of printing to be overshadowed by other more modern processes.

It is a time and labour intensive process, with each invite being printed individually, and as a result no two prints are exactly the same. The letterpress punches the designs into the paper creating a beautiful relief not achieved with other kinds of printing. A clean, crisp look is achieved that can be both seen and felt. The cards have an old worldly, handcrafted feel to them, which makes them different to cards printed on a more modern printing machine.
Our impression depth (how far we push the type or artwork into the paper) can range from a kiss to a heavy impression, depending on your requirements. We work with top quality Cotton rich papers and envelopes, which are best when letterpressing.

Letterpress is a thing of beauty. We are happy to be able to bring this timeless craft back for you to enjoy it. All designs are specially designed for you. We obviously print wedding invites, but are happy to design and print personalised stationery, baby annoucements, greeting cards etc.
